GENERAL INFORMATION ON CHOICE OF DOCTORS
A private doctor is a doctor who does not have a contract with the health insurance companies.
This means that the doctor of your choice cannot bill the health insurance company directly for the services he provides – i.e. you cannot use your e-card from the GKK, VAE and SVS here.
We ask for your understanding that primary consultations or second opinions are billed according to time. In these cases, the deductible can be significantly higher, as health insurance companies only reimburse a small flat rate for consultations.
BILLING AND REIMBURSEMENT
Patients have the right to choose a doctor of their choice (private doctor), even if this doctor does not have a contract with the patient's health insurance company. Since the private doctor cannot bill the patient's health insurance company directly for the medical services, the private doctor issues a fee note, which is initially paid by the patient. The patient can then submit the fee note (including the payment confirmation) to their health insurance company and apply for partial reimbursement of costs.
The patient receives a refund of up to 80% of the amount that a statutory health insurance doctor (according to statutory health insurance tariff) would receive for the same service (legal basis §131 ASVG). It should be noted here that this does not necessarily have to amount to 80% of the fee paid to the private doctor, as private doctors are not bound to statutory health insurance tariffs in the design of their fee invoices and the services may also be purely private.
PRIVATE SERVICES
If it is a purely private service, you as a patient will not receive any reimbursement from your health insurance company.
